Did you know that Virgil has a Facebook page? Every Tuesday we post helpful moving and packing tips on our page, @VirgilMoves. These tips and tricks come directly from someone who has been in the moving industry, in many capacities, for more than a decade (so we trust them). We’ve compiled a list of our 5 favorite tips so far. Do you have any packing and moving tips to share with us? Please let us know in the comments!
Using garage sale dots or other colored labels will make packing and moving much more organized! These will help the movers place the boxes into the correct rooms in your new home. Less mess for you to organize afterward!
You probably have more things than you think you do! Start early so you're not packing everything last minute - give yourself more time than you think you need to pack. Trust us. Also, did you see how many boxes, on average, each residence size uses? That's a lot of packing!
Planning air travel on the same day as your move? You may want to think again! Planning for the What Ifs seems negative, but it may save you from unnecessary stress. Moving is already a stressful event, so we recommend you delay air travel until the next day - just in case.
When packing, be sure to use the right type of container for your items! Pinterest has some great ideas for packing, but beware the plastic bag - if they tear, your items will go everywhere... causing more time spent cleaning/moving. Cardboard Boxes and Plastic Storage Totes with Lids work great! So do suitcases, etc.
Don't get me wrong, plastic bags have their place in the moving process - but not to pack your items in.
As mentioned above, suitcases can be a great container to pack your items in! Don't forget to move these larger items - such as dressers, drawers, etc. FULL with soft goods. We've seen a lot of people use the plastic bags to move their towels, linens, clothing and then the bag tears. Pack these items into drawers to avoid the mess, and to move more efficiently. Less overall items for the movers to take with them than if the drawers were empty.
